I have a bachelor’s degree in special education from Illinois State University. I also have my master’s degree in teaching and leadership from Saint Xavier University. This is my eighth year teaching special education, and my first in the Social Studies Department. I am a varsity football coach specializing in offensive backs. I am married to Becky Radzicki with a son named Zack.

Kurt Rowells
I grew up in the Northwest Suburb of Hoffman Estates and attended Hoffman Estates High School where I graduated from in 2000. While in high school I participated in football, basketball and track. I attend North Park University from 2000-2004 where I earned a bachelor's degree in secondary education with a social studies endorsement. While at North Park I competed in football and track and field and was named team captain of both teams my senior year. I began my teaching career as a substitute in the Chicago Public School system, at the same time I was a football and track coach at Saint Patrick High School in Chicago. I began working at Lakes in the summer of 2005 and have enjoyed my life ever since. I teach AP U.S. History and regular junior level U.S. History. I am also the head coach for boys' track and field and the head coach for freshman football. I was married on June 27, 2009 to beautiful wife Stephanie. I also have a best friend; his name is Jake, my one-year-old yellow Labrador.

Jeff Petersen
Mr. Petersen is originally from Antioch, and attended Antioch Community High School, graduating in 2001. While at ACHS Mr. Petersen played 4 years of both football and baseball, while also being a member of National Honor Society, as well as a Freshmen Advisor. After his graduation from ACHS Mr. Petersen attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he majored in history, graduating in 2005. This year marks Mr. Petersen's 5th year teaching Social Studies in District 117. He is the freshmen football head coach at ACHS, and also serves as a softball assistant coach.  Mr. Petersen's parents were both teachers, his dad teaching Physical Education & Driver's Ed at Zion-Benton Township High School, and his mom teaching 1st grade in Fox Lake prior to their retirement in the spring of 2008. In his free time Mr. Petersen likes to workout, watch college football and basketball, root for the White Sox (Mr. Petersen's mom grew up just down the road from Comiskey Park), and eat cereal.

Tia Martinez
I have had the pleasure of being at Lakes since it opened its doors in 2004. As a special education teacher, I have worked in both the English and social studies departments. I enjoy being part of the social studies team, and I have co-taught Government, Global Studies, and most recently U.S. History. I have a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from the University of Wisconsin at Madison, a teaching certificate in special education from the University of Wisconsin at Whitewater, and a Master's in Educational Leadership from Aurora University. I also hold a type 75 certificate.
