About two hundred LCHS students and staff enjoyed a dozen different beef stew recipes on Sept. 22 during the Fall Beef Stew Cook Off. Hosted by teacher Karen Schneider's fifth and sixth hour Foods II classes, the competition also featured the "Best Ever Chocolate Cake" for voters to sample.
"It was unbelievable," Schneider said of the number of visitors the classes saw during the two periods that day. Fifth hour ran out of stew by the second half of the period.
"[The foods students] loved all of the feedback...having people talk about it the next day in the hall," she said.
After making the rounds, stew tasters voted on their favorite recipe, which kitchen groups pulled from the Internet or brought from home. The winning kitchen group from each class received a candy bar and gift certificate, Schneider said.
Winners were announced late last week. Fifth hour winners include Scott Berman, John Cahanin, Cassandra Lawrence and Robert Giamalakis. Sixth hour winners include Cecelia Koman, Andrew Rehm, Sam Heinrich and Jon Coffing.
Foods II students hope to hold a similar event in January for the Super Bowl -- with chili. |
