Denim Day fundraiser reels in $800 in donations
Students and staff donated $810 for breast cancer research Oct. 7 -- two times more than was expected. And more may be on the way, said Carla Thompson, whose advisory class headed up the local Lee National Denim Day fundraiser.
Money collected will be donated to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, one of the leading contributors to breast cancer research. Lee Jeans and the foundation have supported this event, always held on the first Friday in October, for ten years now. Visit www.komen.org and www.denimday.com for more information.
Participating staff traded in their skirts and slacks for jeans if they contributed $5. Students wore baseball caps to school for contributing $3.
Additionally, Thompson’s advisory students sold suckers on Friday during lunch hours to students who wished to donate. Participating staff members and students received a pink ribbon to wear for the day to show their support for the cause. |
