Seasonal tunes will play during passing periods

The hallways of LCHS were serene during passing periods, as the likes of Beethoven and Bach reverberated among the students and staff on their way to classes.
Then, about two weeks into the debut of Associate Principal Ron Bode’s idea to play mind-stimulating classical music during passing periods, Team Leader Mark Ring slipped something with a bit more – sass – into the mix.
“All of a sudden we were doing Conga lines down the hall,” said a laughing Bode.
From then on, a mishmash of tunes, from Bruce Springsteen to John Mayer to U2 to Tom Petty, sounded through the building for pure enjoyment – and to help the students get to class on time. Bode said one of the purposes of the music is to let students know that by the time the music stops, shortly before the bell rings, they already should have arrived at their respective destinations.
Bode said he welcomes requests for music from staff and students alike, as long as it is appropriate for the school environment. Students and staff can pay 50 cents to have one song of their choosing play on a Monday through Thursday. Signup sheets are in the main office. Groups, such as teams, clubs, advisories, etc., can select the entire music lineup for a Friday by emailing Student Council advisor Katie Cook.
Beginning this week, Bode said he will play holiday music to celebrate the season. He hopes to play a wide variety of holiday tunes to match the tastes of the entire Lakes community. |
