Chemistry students celebrate Mole Day
Chemistry students in Sophia Vatistas' class celebrated Mole Day on Oct. 24 with food and live entertainment.
Students brought in guaca-mole, Mole-tin Dew and other mole-related treats to share with their classmates. Some created mole models or mole-biles to decorate the classroom. One group performed mole music, changing the lyrics of well-known songs to fit the day's theme.
Every year, schools around the United States and the world recognize Mole Day on Oct. 23 from 6:02 a.m. to 6:02 p.m. to commemorate Avogadro's Number (6.02 x 10^23), which is a basic measuring unit in chemistry. The day also is designed to foster student interest in chemistry by centering activities around chemistry and/or moles.
Vatistas said she used Mole Day to introduce the upcoming mole unit in her class. |
