LCHS launched a paper-only recycling program on Dec. 9, answering a call from students and staff that began at the start of the school year.
The Student Council and sponsor Katie Cook teamed up with teachers Tom Long and Karen Day’s environmental class to get the program off the ground. Students distributed cardboard recycle bins from Groot Waste and Recycling Services to almost every classroom at the end of the day on Dec. 9. And more bins are on the way.
“We hope that all students and faculty will be involved in [the program] by recycling paper products to help the environment,” Long said.
If the program proves to be successful, Long said the school might look into expanding it to include batteries, aluminum and other resources.
Student Council members will be responsible for monitoring the bins and emptying them on a regular basis.
