Juniors prepare for new written portion of ACT
 |
All junior students practiced writing timed essays during their English classes last week in preparation for the written portion of the ACT, which is new to the college entrance exam this year. The district purchased an online program designed by ACT for the use of students at both LCHS and ACHS with the intention of helping to raise scores.
The program offers students the opportunity to answer a writing prompt similar to those they might experience on the ACT. They have 30 minutes to respond. After submitting their work electronically, students receive instant feedback on their performance. Essays are evaluated based on the writer’s development of ideas, organization, sentence structure, and more.
The prep program also offers practice tests in other areas of the ACT: math, science, reading, and English.
Upcoming testing dates in 2006 are Oct. 28 and Dec. 9. In 2007, the dates are Feb. 10, April 14 and June 9. The district offers an in-house ACT prep program in February. |
