Forget the snow. Welcome the robins.
The first official day of spring (March 20) is in sight, and the Environmental Earth and Biology class is already taking its work back outdoors. The group took a trip to Chain O' Lakes State Park on March 3 to collect goldenrod galls to conduct a food web experiment in the classroom.
Additionally, the students are continuing their comparative field investigations of the health of the wetland habitats in Lake and McHenry counties.
The class, taught by Tom Long and Karen Day, is divided into teams that collect and investigate data, including dissolved oxygen, phosphates, salinity, macroinvertebrates, soil characteristics and invasive species, of various land plots. The research project began last August. |
