One claimed to be "the one".
Another compared himself to the infamous Energizer Bunny, pledging to keep going and going and going...
These were some of the campaign slogans pushed by the candidates for 2006-2007 class officer positions. Voting day was May 16; the results were announced the morning of May 18:
Sophomore Class Officers: Morgan Robinson, president; Becky Ryan, vice president; Becky Malta, secretary; Vanessa Villarreal, treasurer; Kari Yamamoto, public relations. Junior Class Officers: Aaron Piekarz, president; Emily Gebhardt, vice president; Courtney Bruett, secretary; Anohki Patel, treasurer; Mike Godlewski, public relations. Senior Class Officers: Julie Churchill, president; Katrina Salas, vice president; Jenna Denman, secretary; Sheila Goodrich, treasurer; Katie Hilbert, public relations.
One of the most significant responsibilities of class officers is to coordinate fundraisers for the Prom, which traditionally will be hosted by the Junior Class.
Amber Carter, Junior Class sponsor, said although she was pleased with the high voter turnout, she would have liked to see more students take advantage of their right to run for office. Many candidates ran unopposed, and two positions were left open for write-in candidates because no one else stepped forward, Carter said.
"We want students to get more involved in school..." she said. "...[Running for class officer] is an opportunity to shape the day-to-day workings of LCHS."
The student body also elected junior Mike Castellano to lead the Student Council as president for next school year. Other Student Council officer positions include junior Brittany Bretthauer, vice president of membership; junior Laura Cowles, vice president of special events; junior Michael Brandt, vice president of fundraising; sophomore Sharifa Bilalli, vice president of public relations; sophomore Jennifer Ray, vice president of Eagle spirit. |
