In recognition of Environmental Education Week and Earth Day on April 22, science students stepped into waders and hip-boots on a mission to clean up some of the waste in and around a pond near ACHS. The crew used nets to scoop up litter from the water and cleared the surrounding land of protruding branches and sticks with trimmers and loppers.
Also, the students partook in storm drain stenciling in Lindenhurst, seeking a blue fish symbol imprinted on many neighborhood gutters in the area in order to complete an informational brochure for class. The blue fish is a national symbol to not dump junk such as paint, excess fertilizers from yards, soap from washing cars, salt, and more into drains because it eventually empties into lakes and wetlands. |
