Student groups have been busying themselves with charitable work to help those in need during the holiday season. National Honor Society sponsored a school-wide food drive that accumulated nearly 2,000 items, or almost 1,000 pounds, of nonperishables. English teacher Luke Merten's first period class collected the most items, 323.
All products were donated to Open Arms Mission, which supplies food to local families as well as offers job assistance, budget counseling and more.
The Fellowship of Christian Athletes, some advisory classes, and other LCHS-related individuals and groups bought gifts for a total of 10 families they had adopted through Open Arms Mission. Amnesty International spent an afternoon creating holiday cards to send to the wrongfully imprisoned. LCHS also hosted a Marine Toys for Tots Foundation drive, which provides children in need with toys to open over the holidays. |
