Palombi Middle School topped the competition at the Junior High Math Contest on May 9 at LCHS. The team swept the events, taking firsts in the all of individual tests, mental math and a team test. Millburn, Antioch Upper Grade School and St. Peter's finished second, third and fourth, respectively, and all within one point of each other.
Each school invited six or seven students to participate in the competition. Winners went home with ribbons, presented by Associate Principal Ron Bode.
Math teachers Erin Jones and Dan Swartz decided to host the event as a fun way to promote the Math Team, which Jones plans to head coach next year. Also, it was an opportunity to introduce the math program at LCHS to the sixth through eighth grade students.
