Students at Lakes will make history yet again this year when the Drama Club opens for the school’s first-ever musical production on Feb. 9 with The Music Man.
Nearly 70 students make up the cast, crew and pit performers for the play. Set in 1912 in a small Iowa town, The Music Man is about con-man Harold Hill’s idea to sell a phony music program to the community, though he lacks musical experience. Hill originally hopes to take all of the money and run away, but plans change when he falls in love with the town’s librarian and citizens begin to suspect his qualifications.
Performances are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. on Feb. 9, 10 and 11. The show will wrap up with a 2 p.m. matinee on Feb. 12. Tickets are on sale in the main office and during school lunch hours. Student tickets cost $5 and adult tickets cost $7. Tickets also will be on sale at the door, though there is no guarantee that seats will be available.
