Staff members contributed a total of $210 for a to-be-determined charity in recognition of the five year anniversary of Sept. 11, in which terrorists attacked the World Trade Centers in New York City and the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. and killed nearly 3,000 American civilians.
About 40 staff members donated a minimum of $5 each toward the collection in order to earn the opportunity to trade in their usual dress clothes for a pair of red, white or blue jeans.
Associate Principal Ron Bode began the school day by addressing students and staff with a commemorative talk about the tragic event. His announcement was followed by a moment of silence, in which students stood up and reflected on one of the most tragic events in U.S. history. Some teachers focused their lessons around the memory of Sept. 11.
The flags outside of the main entrance also were flown at half mast. |
