The spring play Up the Down Staircase opens on Friday. With a cast of 28 students, the play tells the story of a first-year high school teacher, played by freshman Jacki Ward, who enters a classroom with the mindset that instructing students will be easy. It does not take long for her to realize she was wrong.
Director Bridget Sundin said she believes this Bel Kaufman script is an appropriate choice since LCHS is a new school with many first-year teachers, including her. Staff, students and parents all are likely to relate to the story, which contains a blend of comedy and drama.
Performances will be held this Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. and on Sunday at 2 p.m. in the auditorium. Tickets are on sale in the cafeteria during lunch hours or at any time in the main office. The cost is $3 a student and $5 for non-students. |
