The P.E. staff plans to host a ladies' night out involving fitness and games on Jan. 30 in recognition of a day dedicated to supporting the efforts and achievements of women in sports. Feb. 1 marks the 20th anniversary of National Girls & Women in Sports Day, which is celebrated across the country by thousands of sports educators, coaches, students, athletic directors, and more.
The day was first recognized in 1987 to honor Olympic volleyball player Flo Hymen and her work toward equality for women’s sports. Hymen died of Marfan’s Syndrome in 1986 while competing in a volleyball tournament in Japan.
The Lakes event will run from 7-9 p.m. and center on this year’s theme, “Count Me In.” Activities will include 30-minute circuit training in the Lakes fitness center, a yoga workout, and Tsegball, a game that combines elements of basketball, volleyball, rugby, and hopscotch.
