Driver Education students ventured to the 2007 Chicago Auto Show last week to view the latest vehicles hitting the market, including the more environmentally friendly alternative fuel models. Teacher Steve Scott said the annual field trip is an important experience for the young drivers, since they soon will be consumers of the products.
In conjuntion with the trip, students must complete a class assignment: create a research-based PowerPoint presentation or write a newspaper article about one of the alternative fuel vehicles they saw at the show. Students also read a Chicago Tribune article on the pros and cons of E-85 Ethanol usage and production and they write a summary of the article.
Some of the featured vehicles included the Chevrolet Equinox, GM's Fuel Cell Hydrogen model; the Chevrolet Volt, which is a battery-powered electric car with a small gasoline engine; and the new Chevrolet Camaro Convertible. |
