Computer Art class designs Booster Club logos
Students in art teacher Cindy Howell's Computer Art class are designing potential logos for the newly formed Lakes Eagles Booster Club. Principal Jim McKay approached Howell about possibly incorporating the project into her curriculum. She introduced the assignment to her class of 21 a couple of weeks ago as part of a lesson about logos: how to make them and what are their purposes.
The students are creating their individual visions using Adobe software, including PhotoShop, Illustrator and Flash. Howell says she hopes to present the final products to McKay in plenty of time for the booster club to create flyers and other advertisements for its Gala and Silent Auction event, scheduled for April 21.
This is the first year Computer Art has been offered at LCHS. Other projects the students have worked on since January include altering three portraits of themselves in PhotoShop and a creating a poster primarily using Illustrator. Howell's next assignment will have the group designing mandalas—a form of art that uses radial symmetry—that represent themselves.
