'Every student has a story...'
Nearly 300 graduates streamed onto Polley Field clad in blue gowns on the evening of May 29 — a landmark date in LCHS history. It was the school's first commencement ceremony.
The Class of 2007 entered LCHS as sophomores in the fall of 2004. As faculty speaker Curt Onstad reminded the audience during his speech, the students had a rare opportunity to be the "top dogs" of a school for three years. Student speaker Katie Whitehurst reflected on the accomplishments of the seniors, from their creation of the student publications to the many successes of the athletic teams.
Gwen Varney, the second faculty speaker, aroused laughter from the crowd as she listed some of the lessons she learned from her experiences with the seniors, including that each one has his or her own story.
Senior Class President Julie Churchill and Student Government President Mike Castellano welcomed the audience to the first Eagle graduation; Outstanding Seniors Nick Ilich and Christina Mazulis emceed for the rest of the ceremony. The aCappella Choir and Wind Ensemble also performed for the last time with their seniors before the presentation of diplomas. |
