Freshmen choose flag design for Class of 2011
A group of three students in Kurt Rowells' freshman advisory collaborated on the design that won the class flag contest held among advisories earlier this month.
Brittany Russell, Kaitlyn Pankiewicz and Taylor Newby's design will be hung alongside the sophomore, junior and senior class flags above the Commons for the remaining four years of the Class of 2011's tenure at LCHS. The flag received 108 out of 300 votes.
Rowells said his advisory worked in small groups, with the help of senior advisor Lisa Raetzman, for three days and a weekend to solidify their designs. The group then selected the one to represent the class. Seven other advisories also participated in the contest.
Last year, Principal Jim McKay in collaboration with Student Government introduced the idea of having students develop flags to represent their graduating class. To keep the tradition rolling, every Freshman Class will participate in a similar contest in years to come.
