Students celebrate spooky holidays with treats and activities
The Eagles recognized Halloween with costumes, candy and holiday-related class activities. Dressed as zombies, dead brides, Super Mario Brothers characters and Friday the 13th's Jason, students floated from class to class, occasionally receiving a treat from teachers if they uttered the magic words.
Teacher Jeff Gutke's Spanish III Honors class created Day of the Dead masks throughout the week to celebrate the mainly Mexican holiday, which falls on Nov. 2 — a Friday this year. They used small squares of tissue paper, Elmer's glue and a mask template for the creations.
The Day of the Dead, or Dia de los Muertos, is designed to celebrate the lives of the deceased as well as the continuation of life.
