The Fine Arts celebrated the holidays Dec. 13 by performing various festive pieces as part of a winter concert.
The Jazz Band began the night followed by the percussion ensemble and the concert band. The more than 100-member audience enjoyed traditional Christmas, Hanukkah and Kwanza carols, as well as popular selections such as “You’re a Mean one, Mr. Grinch.”
The band concert was joined by the aCappella choir for the last number, Ludwig van Beethoven’s "Symphony #9." The choir sang the traditional German version, and the audience was invited to sing the final English verse with them. The choir had composed the words to the final verse prior to the concert.
The choir concert followed the band concert and featured the Chamber Choir, Concert Choir, Jazz Choir, Advanced Treble Choir and the aCappella Choir, along with a special appearance by Santa Claus. “Santa Baby,” performed by the Advanced Treble Choir, brought Santa out of the workshop and onto the stage for the audience’s enjoyment.
The choir’s two final numbers brought all the members of the choirs on stage along with the percussion ensemble. Juniors Tyler Zumbrock and Mat Braden wrote the percussion’s accompanying parts to the choir’s Swahili song “Baba Yetu.”
