Many activities planned for PSAE week in April
Students and staff participate in Simon Says with last year's guest speaker during PSAE week, Jim "Basketball" Jones.
An array of activities is planned for the Eagles on April 25 and 26, which is when the Junior Class is scheduled to complete the Prairie State Achievement Exam. The PSAE is broken up into two days, with the English, math, reading, science and writing portions of the test planned for the first day and the Work Keys section of the test scheduled for day two. LCHS will provide juniors with a breakfast beginning at 7:50 a.m. in the cafeteria both mornings before the testing. Teachers have been preparing their classes for the state-mandated test throughout the year, and administrators are offering incentives such as first row parking spots to students who perform well. While the juniors are busy with their #2 pencils and scantrons, the Freshman Class will spend the days with their advisories completing NWEA tests, which provide teachers with information about individual student's abilities in math, language and reading; participating in various activities, indoors and out; and listening to a guest speaker. Sophomores also will have the opportunity to hear the speaker in between their ACT review sessions. Many students take the ACT in their junior year. Although seniors are not required to attend school on PSAE days, those enrolled in Advanced Placement classes will partake in study sessions to prepare them for their upcoming exams in May. Seniors also are invited to work on their senior projects, either the I-Search paper or the Senior Memory Book, at designated tutorial computer labs.
Both April 25 and 26 will be shortened school days, with a 12:40 p.m. dismissal on April 25 and an 11:20 a.m. dismissal on April 26.
