Theatre Department gets head start planning winter musical, Singin' in the Rain
Preparations for the production of the winter musical Singin' in the Rain begin next week with a workshop that will cover the basics of tap dancing. Students interested in auditioning for the musical are encouraged to attend the tap workshops on Oct. 29, Nov. 5 and Nov. 19 from 3-5 p.m.
Director Bridget Sundin also suggests reading the script, which is available in the library, before attending the audition workshops on Nov. 12 and 26 from 3-5 p.m. During the audition workshops, students will learn an actual dance combination and will hear about audition etiquette and procedures. A sign-up sheet to audition is posted outside of Sundin's classroom, B200.
For the actual audition on Nov. 27, students will be expected to sing 32 measures of a song, tell a minute-long true story about something that revolves around rain, and perform the dance combination. Callbacks are scheduled for Nov. 28. Sundin says she expects to cast a large number of students and already has put together a production team consisting of students and faculty.
The Theatre Department plans to rent costumes from a company it has worked with in the past, Broadway Costumes in Chicago. The musical will be presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International. Performances are scheduled for February.
