Cast of fall play to perform at theatre festival
The cast of the fall play Snow Angel will get one more chance to perform the show. That's because the play was selected by the Illinois Theatre Association as one of just a few shows in the state to be performed during the Illinois High School Theatre Festival in January — a high honor in the world of high school theatre.
Director Bridget Sundin submitted paperwork in September requesting that representatives from the ITA adjudicate the performance of the dramatic comedy. This is the first year Sundin has entered a show for consideration.
"We didn't get our hopes up, understanding that it is very hard to be selected," Sundin said. "The ITA members' response to our show was extremely positive for cast and crew alike. Our hard work definitely did not go unnoticed."
ITA representatives offered an hour-long critique on areas such as acting, directing, staging and technical elements after watching the Friday performance in October.
Members of the cast and crew will go back into rehearsal for David Lindsay-Abaire’s play before the festival, even while some of them also are rehearsing for the winter musical. The group will travel to Illinois State University for the festival from Jan.10 through 12; performances of Snow Angel are scheduled for Jan. 11 at 9 and 11 a.m. in Westhoff Theatre. Students also will have the opportunity to see other schools' performances and attend learning workshops. |
