Driver Education students make trip to auto show

Driver Education students made the annual field trip to the 2008 Chicago Auto Show on Feb. 14 and, this time, almost made it on T.V.
Raymond Chevrolet owner Mark Scarpelli, who has worked closely with the Driver Education Department in the past few years, arranged for the LCHS students to be on camera as NBC Channel 5 anchor and reporter Art Norman did a broadcast in the Chevrolet exhibit.
Students huddled behind the new ZR-1 Corvette as the cameraman circled around the vehicle, highlighting its finest features. The clip was scheduled to be broadcast at 5 p.m. on Feb. 15; however, coverage of the events at Northern Illinois University took precedence, and the clip was not broadcast, said teacher Steve Scott.
Scott said the students work on a consumer-related assignment in conjunction with the field trip.
