Stormy Monday will have the chance to perform at Lake Villa Days, Six Flags Great America and Brick House now that the student band topped its competition at the annual Battle of the Bands on Jan. 26. They also earned a trophy and $50 gift certificate for Antioch Music.
The band was one of four that entered the contest. Definite Change, Person and Damage, and Alone in Faith were other participants. Alumni band Janet Knowles also made an appearance but were not part of the competition.
Science teacher Jeff Newton swapped test tubes for drum sticks as a member of the faculty band that performed at the event. The group, called Klass Sick, also is made up of secretary Evie Amelio on vocals, team leader Mark Ring on guitar, and one of Newton's friends and his brother.
Amelio said the newly formed group practiced three times before the event; it played a variety of songs from between the 70s and today.
Rebecca Ortiz and Diane Ebert of 102.3 XLC judged the contest as well as Amelio's husband, Art Amelio, who has an extensive background in music. Sound was arranged by sophomore Nick Laurich and his father Jiri Laurich, who owns a company called Lazer Productions. |
