Ceramist shows students a thing or two on potter's wheel
 Professional ceramist Tim Pfiffner visited Ron Howell's ceramics class on Jan. 14 to demonstrate how to "throw" various large-scale projects.
Pfiffner, who has been throwing for the past 33 years and who acts as president of Great Lakes Clay, worked on throwing a tall pot, a wide casserole dish, and a wide bowl in front of the students, who watched quietly and with interest.
Pfiffner discussed the importance of good centering as well as some decorating techniques as part of his demonstration.
Howell said Pfiffner's visit was beneficial to his students because they are required to work on a potter's wheel for class activities.
