Eagles do it again! Fall blood drive brings in 300 pints
More students, staff, and community members than ever donated blood during the fall drive on Nov. 6. Sponsored by the student group Athletes Committed to Excellence, the drive brought in 307 pints of blood with more donations expected in the next week.
This is the second time the LCHS community has broken the state record for most blood donated at a public school drive. Last spring, the school set the record with 253 pints.
A.C.E. sponsors Ray Gialo and Mike Gedville, also P.E. teachers, said they attribute the turnout to more education about the components of blood as well as stories about how the blood is used. Additionally, rather than encouraging students to make appointments online in their free time, P.E. teachers had the students sign up during class.
The school could qualify for up to $6,000 in scholarship money if the spring blood drive is equally successful.
