Eagles overwhelm community with holiday spirit
Half of the main office is filled with gifts for local families in need, thanks to the efforts and holiday cheer of the Eagles. LCHS adopted 11 families through the Open Arms Mission this holiday season. Another 11 families were helped through Adopt a Family sponored by the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
For the past few weeks, students and staff have been plucking ornaments off of the Giving Tree in the main office, each one listing a specific gift they could contribute.
On Dec. 11, receptionist Evie Amelio and a few volunteer students packed up the gifts to deliver to the Open Arms Mission. The organization is in search of volunteers for Saturday, Dec. 13 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Students are encouraged to volunteer their time and possibly earn service hours.
The National Honors Society also has met with success for this year's winter clothing drive, which ends on Monday, Dec. 15. The group has collected perhaps more coats than ever this year, NHS sponsors say.
