The library staff wants students and faculty to "Join the Circle" during this year's National Library Week, which runs from April 14-18.
The theme suggests that libraries are the center of school activities.
Students are invited to visit the first floor library during lunch hours throughout the week to participate in hula hooping, Baggo, bowling, Connect Four, and other "circular" games. Monday alone, about 150 students stopped by and were invited to add a link to a daisy chain that librarian Katie Cook says she hopes will extend throughout the library by the week's end. Additionally, students who check out a book get a piece of candy and a "Join the Circle" sticker.
Students also can seek out literary trivia clues hidden in the building and answer the question to earn a prize. Cook says many of the clues still need to be found.
Because April also is National Poetry Month, the library staff has organized a poetry contest for freshmen. All entries are due Thursday.
The festivities will conclude with a Drop Everything and Read on Friday, in which the entire school community will take 30 minutes to read material of their choice. |
