Results of the EXPLORE and PLAN tests show that incoming freshmen and current sophomores are performing better than the national average in the four major testing areas.
The Class of 2012 earned a composite score of 16.3 on the EXPLORE test, which is 1.4 more than the national average of 14.9. The students scored significantly higher than the national figures in the four testing areas, including English, Math, Reading and Science. District 117 uses students' scores from the EXPLORE test to measure their abilities for placement into appropriate classes for their freshman year. The test also is used as an indicator to predict students' future academic and career success.
The sophomores not only topped national standings on the PLAN test, but also performed higher than any class at LCHS in the past three years. The Class of 2010 scored a composite average of 19 on a 32-point scale test — 1.5 points higher than the national average of 17.5. Students scored about four- or five-tenths higher than the 2006-2007 results in most areas.
"It's very comforting as a principal [to know that we are increasing every year on the PLAN test]. This is definitely something to celebrate," said Principal Jim McKay. |
