PSAE Week 2008 is now in the past, and team leader Dave Newberry said the testing process from April 23-24 went smoothly. High attendance was one aspect of the annual activities that Newberry said pleased him. Ninety-eight percent of the Junior Class was present to take the state-mandated Prairie State Achievement Test on the first day of testing, April 23. To offer incentive, juniors were treated to a breakfast the first day of testing and they entered a raffle to win prizes, including gift cards. LCHS expects to receive the PSAE scores in mid-summer, Newberry said.
Additionally, over the course of the two days freshman and sophomore attendance was high, about 50 AP students participated in review sessions for their tests next month, and more than 40 seniors spent time in the computer lab finishing their I-Search projects.
On April 24, day two of the PSAE for juniors, freshmen watched the Holocaust film Schindler's List as part of their genocide unit for Global Studies, and they participated in follow-up activities including a writing assignment. Sophomores rotated to stations to go over their results from November's PLAN test. Each station focused on a specific portion of the test, including English, reading, science, and math, which also will be part of the ACT. |
