The student newspaper and literary magazine staffs recently earned top ratings from regional and national journalism organizations for last year's publications.
The Talon Times took home a 1st place rating from the Kettle Moraine Press Association's annual fall conference on Oct. 17. This is the second time in three years that the publication has received this rating from KEMPA, this time earning 1,052 out of 1,200 total points. The newspaper scored highest in the news writing and editing categories.
Additionally, the Columbia Scholastic Press Association awarded Mosaic a Gold Medalist certificate for the second year in a row - also the second time the magazine has ever been published. This is the highest recognition that CSPA awards for its critique. The literary magazine, earned 925 out of 1,000 possible points, scoring perfect in the organization category.
Students should begin thinking about their creative writing submissions for this year's magazine. Short stories, lyrics, poetry, and more will be collected by the staff at the beginning of second semester. Click here to pre-purchase the 2008-2009 magazine.
