The National Honor Society held the third annual Eagle Relay to Give Kids Hope on Oct. 5 at the LCHS track.
Nearly 100 registered walkers showed up on the rainy Sunday afternoon to give support to this event. Participants were part of a raffle, receiving various gift certificates from community businesses, including Applebee’s, The Lake House, RJ’s Eatery, Twisted Cow, and Dairy Queen. Panera Bread and Dunkin’ Donuts also contributed by donating bagels, donuts and coffee. Walkers wore royal blue t-shirts designed by NHS member Lauren Hennelly.
NHS raised more than $2,100, with each member raising at least $30 through pledges. Members also voted to donate all money raised to Kids Hope United in Lake Villa. Various races and other events took place during the event including a three-legged race and a long distance football punt.
The Lakes Chapter began three years ago. The goal of the organization is to have one fundraiser and one service project throughout the year. The officers for NHS are Steffanie Fisher, president, Alyssa Wittman, vice president; Lauren Hennelly, director of communications; Morgan Robinson, director of service; Jessica Hennelly, director of fundraising; Raven Jackson-Stone, secretary; and Laura Ban, treasurer. The faculty advisors are Jeff Gutke and Pat Goodrich.
