Seniors B.J. Fuller and Devin O'Malley dig for a container they buried as freshmen.
Seniors go on treasure hunt to find their pasts
On May 19, several seniors went in search of buried treasure—treasure that they, themselves, planted into the dirt of the LCHS grounds three years ago. Back then, they were freshmen in April Kelly's English I class reading Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island and creating treasure maps and clues as assignments. Now, they are nearly a week away from graduating.
Kelly decided it was time for the members of her two former English I classes to dig up their pasts so invited them to participate in the search after school.
Representatives from the two classes used their three-year-old maps to locate the general area where the valuables were hidden. The dig persisted for about 45 minutes before one group finally tapped in on the rubber container that held their treasures: worksheets in which the students answered questions about who they hoped to be by the time they graduated as members of the Class of 2008.
