Singin' in the Rain takes storm at LCHS theatre

Students involved in the musical production of Singin' in the Rain have been practicing their shuffle ball-change, grapevine, and other popular tap moves in preparation for opening night on Friday, Feb. 8 at 7 p.m.
The original opening night of Thursday, Feb. 7 was cancelled due to the weather; tickets already purchased for that show, though, will still be honored for the Friday and Saturday performances.
Eighty students make up the cast, crew, and musical pit for this performance, which also runs Feb. 9 at 2 and 7 p.m. in the theatre. Director Bridget Sundin said that one reason she selected this musical is because it gives many students an opportunity to participate in one way or another.
The story takes place around the time when silent movies were being phased out and replaced by talking pictures. In an effort to keep up with the times, popular silent film star Don Lockwood, with the help of two friends, converts his latest movie into a hit "talkie".
Student actors have been rehearsing since Thanksgiving. The tap dance practices have been especially intense, Sundin said, but that aspect of the show also is something new to the LCHS stage.
Tickets cost $5 for students and $7 for non-students and they can be purchased in the main office, during lunch hours, or at the door.
