Twenty-one area dance teams are expected to participate in the TEAMDance Illinois competition at LCHS on Sunday, Dec. 6. Varsity dance coach Jaclyn Shapiro and JV coach Kari Bodine have been preparing for this massive event since last spring, when TDI accepted the Eagle program's bid to host its second annual contest.
Meanwhile, the coaches also have been preparing their girls to qualify for state at this competition.
"The girls have been working really hard since June," Shapiro said.
The competition is the program's largest fundraiser of the year. Last year's event raked in about $5,500 for the program, most of which was used to cover state competition expenses.
Shapiro and Bodine attended a training seminar in September to prepare them for the organization involved in hosting a dance competition. Soon after the seminar, they sent out invitations to school dance programs. Shapiro said she is still looking for student volunteers to work three-hour shifts between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Anyone interested should contact Shapiro or volunteer coordinator Jamie Collins.
In the last few days before competition, the varsity girls are "cleaning up" their kick routine, which missed state qualification at the last contest by two points. The girls also are looking forward to unveiling their hip-hop routine and performing their open pom routine, Shapiro said.
The varsity girls are tentatively scheduled to perform at 9:10 a.m., 9:35 a.m., and 1:25 p.m., and the JV girls are scheduled to perform at 10:05 a.m. and 12:25 p.m. Click here to view the complete schedule. The boys' dance team is expected to perform again this year at about 11 a.m. The junior and senior boys have been practicing their original routine for the past two weeks under the direction of the girls' team's captains.
Admission for the competition is $4 for students and $8 for adults. |
