Marines fly in for a visit
Two military helicopters landed on the grassy field just south of the school on May 11. The Marines' visit offered students a hands-on learning experience in various subject areas.
Jori Bowen's Honors Pre-Calculus classes asked the helicopter pilots about the diameter of the machine's rotor system, its weight, and more, then used the information to solve problems on a worksheet. Kevin Kullby's U.S. History classes interviewed the Marines and wrote reflections about their experience talking to the soldiers and touring the helicopter. Science classes also planned educational activities.
The Marines used the nearly four-hour visit to recruit interested students. Some students took the pull-up challenge, earning themselves a sticker, t-shirt, hat, or lanyard depending on their success. |
