The Media Center is the place to be.
"Worlds Connect @ Your Library" is this year's theme for National Library Week, which ends Friday, and celebration activities are well under way.
Students are invited to visit the first floor library during their lunch study halls to play various games rooted from other cultures, such as Jenga. Each visitor also will receive a slip of paper to write their name on and attach to a chain hanging from the library's ceiling. The chain demonstrates at least one way LCHS students "connect" — through the library.
Media specialist Katie Plese welcomes students to place a star on a world map posted in the library to indicate the places they have traveled. Library-goers also are challenged to complete a few reading-related tasks listed on a Library Passport to earn a prize at the end of the week.
On Wednesday, students participated in one of five Drop Everything and Read days scheduled for the year. The entire school community picked up a book or magazine for 30 minutes of reading pleasure.
Plese also conducted book talks with freshman advisories to discuss National Poetry Month, which coincidentally takes place in April.
