Students view inauguration of 44th United States president

Students watched from the commons. They watched from the cafeteria and the library. And they watched from their classrooms as the 44th president of the United States was sworn into office on Jan. 20 just after 11 a.m.
This presidential inauguration is a historical event in many ways, and primarily because Barack Obama is now the first African-American president in the country's history.
Teachers of all subject areas paused to allow their classes to witness the event, from the procession, to soul singer Aretha Franklin's rendition of "My Country 'Tis of Thee," to Obama's oath of office, to his 15-minute Inaugural Address. The sound of the cheering crowd at the steps of the Capitol Building in Washington, D.C. echoed through the LCHS hallways during the ceremony.
Many social studies classes will continue discussion about the inauguration during class on Wednesday.
