The Lake Villa Police Department's Special Response truck has a new nickname: Rudolph. Members of the Art Club painted the truck with various winter and holiday symbols, complete with a red nose on the front, to help in the preparation of the department's first ever Shop with a Cop next week.
The Shop with a Cop program offers local children in need the opportunity to shop for toys, clothes, and other gifts at the Round Lake Beach Wal-Mart. Grade schools in the area recommended 40 students who would benefit from this charitable event, which also includes talking to Santa at the police department, having a pizza party, taking a ride on the decorated truck, and being accompanied by a police officer during their $100 shopping spree at Wal-Mart. Various businesses and residents contributed about $5,000 in donations for this event.
The Art Club members used temporary paint to decorate the truck on Dec. 10. School Resource Officer Erik Lindberg said the artwork "is just another touch that will hopefully make the kids' experience with Shop with a Cop that much more special."
