Career Shadowing Day gives students a taste of the real world
 |
| Eric Minor, director of innovation and strategy at Sara Lee, was the keynote speaker at Career Shadowing Day. |
Representatives from nearly 50 local businesses and organizations volunteered to show students the ropes of their work at the annual Career Shadowing Day on November 16.
During an opening ceremony that included breakfast at LCHS, Superintendent Mike Nekritz welcomed the professionals and the 120 student participants from LCHS and ACHS.
Bret Mumenthaler, president elect of the Antioch Rotary Club, which co-hosted Career Shadowing Day, addressed the group followed by keynote speaker Eric Minor, director of innovation and strategy at Sara Lee. Minor shared a story about how he helped guide his daughter to her career choice in medicine. He just asked her a simple question: What interests you?
With phrases like "work hard" and "keep your options open" lingering in their minds, students departed for the shadowing portion of their day. They headed to schools, chiropractor offices, law offices, animal hospitals, fire and police stations, health centers and more depending on their interests. Students had to submit an application and a current resume to the Guidance Department to participate in the program. Applicants were placed on a first come, first serve basis, though placement for seniors was a top priority. |
