Class of 2010 leaves a legacy, prepares for bigger things
Teachers and administrators tipped their hats to the 350 graduates in the Class of 2010 during the commencement ceremony on Sunday, May 23.
The graduates threw theirs.
And they deserved to. After all, as juniors they set a district record by scoring a 22.2 on the PSAE and they boast a record number of Illinois Scholars, among other academic accomplishments. Faculty speaker Jamie Collins recognized the class' unbeatable school spirit, explaining how they created new school traditions as seniors; there are never too many traditions.
Faculty speaker Kurt Rowells encouraged graduates to abide by a "To Do List" of five important items throughout their lives, including honoring their parents and being lifelong learners. Student speaker Callie Bretthauer related their four years at LCHS to the literary characters they read about in each of their English classes, and student speaker Rachel Cawthorn urged her classmates to continue to make the choice to have a positive attitude and work hard in their futures.
Outstanding seniors Erin McGill and Mitchell Post ushered graduates to their seats as they entered the stadium and they also emceed the ceremony. A Cappella Choir and Advanced Treble Choir sang two songs before the ceremony, and during the ceremony the choirs and next year's Wind Ensemble collaboratively performed Todd Stalter's "The Path."
