The building came back alive on Tuesday, Aug. 17, when the student body of about 1,400 Eagles returned for the first day of school. LCHS also welcomed five new teachers: Neil Lesinski and Scott Hammerl in the English Department, Diana O’Connor in the Fine Arts Department, and Amy Elliott and Kathryn Hofeldt in the Science Department.
In an email to faculty and staff, Principal Steve Plank called the first day a success. He said he enjoyed the energy and excitement that comes with the students’ return.
Students spent their first hours of the 2010-2011 school year meeting their teachers and becoming acquainted with their schedule and classes. Throughout the week, administrators will meet with the Sophomore, Junior, and Senior classes during their lunch study halls to review data, set goals, discuss the school culture, and offer other reminders; they discussed these items with the freshmen during orientation Aug. 10.
Students and parents should be aware of the new late-start Mondays. Classes will begin at 9 a.m. on most Mondays, beginning Aug. 23. These provide time for faculty and staff to meet about curriculum, professional development, and other matters throughout the year.
The first school-community event is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 20 with the football teams’ scrimmage games. These will take place beginning at 4:30 p.m. on the field inside of the track. The Booster Club and Talon Club together are sponsoring a tailgate. |
