In two days, LCHS raised nearly $2,500 in text and cash donations for the World Food Programme, an organization offering its assistance to the shaken island nation of Haiti. Haiti experienced a massive earthquake earlier this month, and relief efforts, such as the one organized by LCHS International Relations students, continue all across the United States.
"Everyone associated with the campaign should feel extremely proud of their efforts and know that we are helping the people of Haiti in their time of need," said Eric Vichnick, campaign supervisor.
Students were permitted to text "Friends" to 90999 during their lunch periods on Jan. 21 and 22 to make a $5 donation to be applied to their cell phone bill.
Cash donations also were accepted.
Vichnick encourages the school community to continue making donations either through text messaging or online. Click here to donate to the WFP online, or click here to donate through the WFP Students Help Haiti page; look for the LCHS banner.
The Drama Department also is planning a sketch comedy show in early spring to raise money for Haiti. More information will be released as plans are finalized. |
