Ghandi, Confucius, and Yoda are giving students a positive push on their way to English and math class. Quotes from these famous figures and characters now color the third floor hallway — part of a pilot project that organizers hope will expand to all of the blank hallways in LCHS.
Social worker Christina Foss and guidance counselor Nicole Repa suggested the idea to Principal Jim McKay during a conversation about diversity and improving the school climate. Foss said the hope is that the "White Walls No More" project will indirectly bring the school community together and that the quotes will perhaps even act as a pick-me-up for anyone who is having a rough day.
Students and faculty and staff were invited to submit their favorite inspirational quotes for consideration to make the project more personal. Foss and Repa then searched for student volunteers, starting with Art Club and then the entire student body, to begin painting the quotes in the third floor hallway. Fifteen students participated in afterschool painting on two days just prior to winter break. Artists included Shannon Grant, Kaitlyn Larson, Katherine Suopys, Cody Plusa, David Sapiega, Juan Perez, Zach Zannini, Chloe King, Jazmine Garcia, Ramon Garcia, Nicole Kruckeberg, Corbin Buege, Stephen Smith, Chloe Carl, and Emily Burke.
Foss says if the project is well received, she hopes to include department-specific quotes in their respective hallways.
