Students work on their Global Studies project, which will be exhibited during the Living Museum on Feb. 24.

Global Studies students are traveling in time next week, specifically to the Civil Rights Movement of the 1950s and 1960s. The freshmen will present information about the movement at their Living Museum on Wednesday, Feb. 24 from 6-8 p.m. in the commons, and the community is invited to attend.
Global Studies classes typically study the Civil Rights Movement during the month of February, which also is Black History Month. Rebecca Holst, Social Studies Department chair and Global Studies teacher, came up with the idea of a Living Museum after learning about a similar event at Lake Forest College. The college's event recognizes the life and legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr.
Much preparation has gone into creating exhibits for the museum. Small groups of three or four students are responsible for researching a topic and presenting their information on trifolds. They also are creating 10-minute Photo Stories with narration, and at least one student in each group has been dubbed an "actor" and will portray a famous Civil Rights figure as part of their exhibit. The teachers implemented several checkpoints to keep the students on track with their projects.
Other Global Studies teachers participating include Eli Rollman, Matt Rife, Morgan Allen, Keith West, Eric Vichnick, and Jeff Peterson.
