The literary magazine hosted the fourth annual Open Mic Night on March 16. About 150 students attended, many who performed monologues, sang, or recited poetry. Others enjoyed the entertainment while lounging on the commons couches and snacking on baked goods and sipping coffee or cocoa. The event was emceed by English teacher Caleb Parnin, who also accompanied some of the performers on the guitar and piano.
Winners of the L.A.M.P. contest were announced, and they had the opportunity to share their work with the crowd. First place winners include Kaitlin Macanowicz for prose, Jared Hedges for poetry, Ben Mol for photography, and Deven Posedel for artwork.
The event raised about $700 from admission alone, not including the sale of baked goods, pre-sales for the magazine, or sales of older magazines. Jamie Collins, Mosaic advisor, said the staff is determined to raise enough money to print the entire magazine in color; in past years, the dozen or so colored pages were reserved for the Art Gallery portion of the publication, and the rest of the pages were black and white.
Collins said she will accept pre-orders for this year's magazine, themed "A Multicolored Life," by Friday, March 26. Pre-ordered copies cost $5, and the magazine will be sold after publication for $7. Click here for more information about Mosaic. |
