Twenty-one students were recognized for their high achievement on the ACT portion of the Prairie State Achievement Exam, which they took last April as juniors.
Five of those now seniors, Hilde Nelson, Mike Beckman, Eric Gillum, Jared Hedges, and Iris Schweier, scored higher than a 33 on the college-entrance exam, which doubles as the state’s way of determining whether a school is meeting adequate yearly progress according to No Child Left Behind. These students earned a free parking pass for the school year.
Students who made a seven to nine point gain between the PLAN test they took as sophomores and the ACT also earned the award. The expected improvement is three points. These students included Joe Ames, Matt Dexheimer, John Engel, Sarah Goth, Merrick Johansen, Deanne Kizer, Tim Klincewicz, Alexis Koth, Aleksandra Lazic, Nate McMahon, Neuman Osman, Sam Renchen, Aaron Sauerland, Kyle Sherman, Anna Skoullos and Anthony Szuhay.
The students were asked to complete a survey to indicate the various ways they prepared for the test and how LCHS could offer more and better services for students.
Although LCHS did not make adequate yearly progress this year, the Class of 2011’s scores are above state and national averages, said Assistant Principal Dave Newberry. Additionally, the class posted the highest science scores in LCHS history. |
